The US stock exchanges opened Monday with losses to kick off the new week on a lower note.
The Nasdaq was down 23 points, or 0.19%, to 17,656 at 9.49 a.m. EDT (1349GMT). The tech-heavy index closed Friday at a new record-high level for the fifth consecutive trading day.
The S&P 500, meanwhile, lost 10 points, or 0.19%, to 5,421.Tthe Dow Jones fell almost 56 points, or 0.14%, to 38,533 at the time.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 4.4% to 13.22. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.9% to 4.290%.
The dollar index was unchanged at 105.55, while the euro rose 0.15% to $1.0715 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in red, with gold losing 0.5% to $2,320 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.5% to $29.41.
Oil prices were up around 0.8%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $83.27 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $78.73. -
