Major US stock indices opened higher on Monday to kick off the new week on a higher note.
The blue-chip Dow rose 162 points, or 0.5%, to open the day at 32,965, while the S&P 500 added 23 points, or 0.57%, to 4,169.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq climbed 105 points, or 0.83%, to 12,763.
While Tesla shares were up 4%, General Electric and Uber saw their stock prices gain more than 2.5% apiece.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1.7% to 21.51. But the 10-year US Treasury yield was down 1.6% to 2.796%.
The dollar index was down 0.3% to 106.30. The euro rose 0.2% to $1.0203 against the dollar.
Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.3% to $1,780 and silver rising 2.2% to $20.34.
Oil prices were down slightly. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was at $94.68 per barrel for a 0.25% loss, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was down 0.6% to $88.48. -
