The US has obtained a warrant for the seizure of an airplane owned by sanctioned Russian oligarch Andrei Skoch worth over $90 million, the Justice Department announced Monday.
The seizure warrant from the US District Court for the Southern District of New York targets the Airbus A319-100, which is subject to seizure based on probable cause of violation of the federal anti-money laundering laws, it said in a statement.
Skoch was sanctioned by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in 2018 for being an official of the Government of the Russian Federation, a deputy of the Russian Federation's State Duma, and due to his "longstanding ties to Russian organized criminal groups," it added.
Since Russia's war on Ukraine started on Feb. 24, OFAC has imposed additional sanctions on Skoch and his assets, while identifying the Airbus as a blocked property on June 2.
The Treasury said Skoch owns the Airbus through a series of shell companies and trusts tied to his romantic partner.
After the office designated Skoch in 2018, transactions were made in US dollars to pay for the registration of the Airbus in Aruba, it added.
The Airbus A319 is a commercial twin-engine jet aircraft that can carry up to 156 passengers, with a maximum range of 6,900 kilometers . -
