The US military operation against Iran, which began in the night hours and lasted 4 hours, has been completed. During the attacks, explosion sounds were heard in many Iranian cities, and air defense systems were activated. The Tehran government announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed to ship traffic again and that all vessels will be targeted. While Iran stated that it has launched retaliatory attacks on US bases, Trump threatened that if no agreement is reached, they will strike Iran much harder tomorrow.
Following US President Donald Trump's statement earlier today that "we will hit Iran very hard today," the US military launched a large-scale operation against Iran during the night.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the strikes were directed at military targets in Iran and were initiated in self-defense. Approximately four hours after the operation began, it was reported that attacks on designated targets had been completed.
TRUMP'S STRONG MESSAGE: NO DEAL, ATTACKS WILL CONTINUE
In statements following the operation, Trump said US warplanes were operating in Iranian airspace and that he had been in contact with Iranian officials, adding that he would halt the attacks shortly.
Trump stated that if Iran does not sign the deal offered by the US, the attacks will intensify. He also claimed that the current ceasefire is one of the most violated ceasefires in the world.
TEHRAN DENIES TRUMP'S CLAIMS
Tehran denied Trump's claim that Iranian officials had called him to request a halt to the attacks.
A senior unnamed Iranian official, speaking to Iranian state television, stated that no contact had been made with Trump and that Iran continues to respond to the attacks with military means.
EXPLOSIONS HEARD IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS IN IRAN
Following the attacks, explosion sounds were reported in many parts of Iran. Blasts were reported in the cities of Sirik and Minab near the Strait of Hormuz, while Iranian media reported that air defense systems were activated in the western part of the country, as well as in Fars and Aseluye regions. Explosion sounds were also recorded in Minab, Bandar Abbas, Kish, and Sirik.
CLASH CLAIMS IN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ
Mehr News Agency reported clashes between Iranian and US forces at sea. The report claimed that US ships near the Strait of Hormuz were targeted by missiles and drones launched by Iran.
The Iranian Army announced that all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, would be targeted. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy claimed to have struck two ships attempting to cross the strait.
IRAN RETALIATES AGAINST US BASES
Iran also announced that it had targeted American bases in the region in response to US attacks. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that while the US targeted Bandar Abbas Airport and police and security units, Iran's Air Force and Navy carried out retaliatory operations against US bases.
According to the statement, attacks were conducted in two waves, striking 18 significant targets belonging to the US military at Ali Al Salem and Ahmed Al Jaber air bases in Kuwait, and Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. Following the Iranian attacks, Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation announced the temporary closure of its airspace.
NOTABLE STATEMENT FROM ISRAEL
Security sources speaking to Israeli state television KAN reported that the Israeli military was not directly involved in the current attacks.
The report noted that the operation was entirely conducted by US warplanes and warships, while assessing that Iran might launch new missile attacks against Israel and countries in the region hosting US troops.
HEGSETH HAD PREVIOUSLY SIGNALED THE OPERATION
Earlier in the day, Trump had stated in a speech that he could target Iran's infrastructure, claiming that the Tehran administration had agreed not to acquire nuclear weapons but had still not signed the necessary deal.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, in a statement before the operation, said CENTCOM would target critical facilities in Iran, adding that the strikes would serve US military interests and strengthen its diplomatic position.
Due to developments in the region, the US Embassy in Baghdad also called on American citizens in Iraq to remain on alert.
CURRENT SITUATION ON THE GROUND: MUTUAL ATTACKS CONTINUE
Assessments of the current situation on the ground indicate that tensions have escalated rapidly following the downing of a US Apache helicopter operating over the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Washington announced it had conducted an approximately four-hour operation targeting Iran's air defense systems, radar facilities, and ground control centers.
Iran claimed to have targeted the US military presence in the region, striking 21 targets including the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain and the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The Tehran administration also claimed to have downed a US MQ-9 Reaper drone over Bushehr.
NO SIGN OF RETREAT FROM IRAN
Iranian officials signaled they would not back down. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated they are open to diplomacy but will continue to respond with different methods if deemed necessary.
