Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello stated in an interview with state television VTV that a large number of mercenaries have entered the country from Colombia, and therefore, a series of precautionary measures have been taken ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 25.

"WE HAVE ISSUED A DIRECTIVE TO SUSPEND FLIGHTS"

Claiming that the elections are being attempted to be sabotaged, Cabello said, "We have issued a directive to immediately suspend all flights from Colombia to Venezuela. Because according to the information we have, we have detected that individuals connected to violence, terrorism, and organized crime have entered the country using the land border from Colombia."

38 PEOPLE DETAINED

Cabello reported that a total of 38 people, including 17 foreigners, have been detained, and among those captured are individuals of Colombian, Mexican, and Ukrainian nationality. Accusing former Colombian presidents Ivan Duque, Juan Manuel Santos, Alvaro Uribe, and Andres Pastrana of "conspiring and engaging in terrorist activities" in Venezuela, Cabello emphasized that they will not allow this.

"WE RECEIVED INTELLIGENCE OF AN ATTACK"

Cabello also stated that they have received intelligence regarding attacks on embassy buildings in the country, saying, "Embassies accredited in Venezuela have been chosen as primary targets for the attack. Police stations, hospitals, health centers, and transformer stations are also among the targets."

STRONG REACTION TO OPPOSITION LEADER

Cabello also reacted to opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, alleging that Machado is the mastermind behind the mentioned terrorist activities. On May 25, elections will be held in 24 states, including the disputed Esequibo region with neighboring Guyana, for governorships as well as for the National Assembly (AN) deputies.
