Seven people lost their lives in an armed attack on a church in the city of Karak, Jordan. While Jordan's Prime Minister declared that the attack was a "terrorist attack," Jordan's King Abdullah II, who visited the region after the attack wearing a military uniform, said that the perpetrators would be punished with an "iron fist."
Jordanian Prime Minister Jafer Hassan announced that the attack in which armed individuals opened fire on a church yesterday, killing 7 people, was a "terrorist attack."
"TERRORISM HAS NO HOMELAND OR RELIGION" The investigation launched into the armed attack on a church in the town of Hmood in Jordan's Karak Governorate during a funeral ceremony is ongoing. In a statement, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafer Hassan said, "Terrorism has no homeland or religion, and there will be no place in this country for those who spread sedition and extremism. The hand of justice will reach everyone involved in this cowardly act. Guilty, criminal and deviant hands will not go unpunished. The King has instructed all our institutions to mobilize all our resources to bring the criminals to justice and ensure they receive the punishment they deserve. Our institutions will not hesitate, and we will catch them. This is a result of terrorist ideology and blind extremism, and we will not allow society to move down this path. We will take the harshest legal measures against everyone who incites rebellion and everyone who tries to cause extremism to enter our society. This is a fundamental and necessary matter."
"THEY WILL BE PUNISHED WITH AN IRON FIST" Jordan's King Abdullah II visited Karak in military uniform hours after the attack and said the perpetrators would be punished with an "iron fist." King Abdullah II said, "The terrorist attack on Karak will be met with the harshest retaliation. Those who think they can divide Jordanians with their bullets have no chance against our unity."
40 INJURED Jordan's Public Security Director Abeidallah Al Ma'aitah also stated that efforts to apprehend the attackers are ongoing. Jordan's Interior Minister Mazin Al Farrayeh stated that the attack was carried out by "extremists," but that it is too early to say whether they have any connection to known groups inside or outside Jordan. The Jordanian Health Minister said that 40 people were injured.
