U.S. President Donald Trump reacted strongly to allegations that the vote count was halted during the presidential election in Honduras, warning that there would be "very serious consequences" if the results were tampered with. It was reported that only 47% of the votes had been counted in the country, while the race was continuing neck and neck between two candidates.

US President Donald Trump reacted to allegations that the vote count in the presidential election in the Central American country of Honduras has been halted.

In a statement on his US-based social media platform Social Truth, Trump noted that there would be serious consequences if officials in Honduras attempted to "manipulate" the election results.

Reminding that only 47% of the votes in Honduras have been counted, Trump stated, "The counting has been stopped. It is very important for the commission to finish counting the votes. The votes of hundreds of thousands of Hondurans must be counted. Democracy must prevail!"

TRUMP THREATENED

President Trump warned, "It seems that Honduras is trying to change the results of the presidential election. If they do, the price will be very high."

Trump's criticism came after Ana Paola Hall, the President of the National Election Council (CNE) of Honduras, stated that there was a "technical tie" between the two leading candidates, conservative Nasry Asfura and former television presenter Salvador Nasralla.

TRUMP HAD EXPRESSED SUPPORT FOR THE LEADING CANDIDATE

According to CNE data in Honduras, while only 47% of the votes have been counted in the election, Asfura is leading the race by just 515 votes over Nasralla.

Additionally, Trump had expressed support for Asfura, the candidate of the National Party, last week and announced that he would pardon former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez.

HONDURAS WENT TO THE POLLS

The people of Honduras, a Central American country, went to the polls yesterday to determine the president who will govern the country for four years.

In Honduras, which has a population of over 11 million, more than 6 million voters will elect not only the president but also vice presidents, 128 members of the local parliament, 20 members of the Central American Parliament, and 298 mayors.

The candidate who receives the most votes in the election will take over from the current President Xiomara Castro on January 27, 2026.
