Warning to citizens traveling from England to Turkey: 42 sexual assaults occurred in 2023

The UK Foreign Office has issued warnings to British citizens traveling to Turkey. The ministry stated that there have been 42 cases of sexual assault, including rape, in 2023. They advised British travelers to always be aware of their surroundings, follow local news, and heed the advice of local authorities while in Turkey. They also recommended against traveling to the Turkey-Syria border, as well as Şırnak and Hakkari.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, which updates its warnings for citizens traveling to Turkey, has stated that there were 42 cases of sexual assault, including rape, in the country in 2023, and has urged caution.

UK UPDATES WARNING LIST

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office has updated its advice for those traveling to Turkey. Among the warnings announced by the ministry, there is an interesting item.

"OVER 40 SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES OCCURRED IN TURKEY LAST YEAR"

In the update, which includes a warning about more than 40 cases of sexual assault, including rape, reported in Turkey during the summer holiday period last year, it is stated that "most of the incidents occurred in tourist areas on the coast during the summer holiday period." The ministry's statement also mentioned that "the crimes were committed by someone the victim met during the day, including hotel and spa employees. There were also sexual assaults against minors who went to the restroom alone. Extra caution should be exercised in these situations."

"BE CAUTIOUS"

British travelers are advised to "always be aware of their surroundings, follow local news, and comply with the advice of local authorities" while in Turkey.

"DO NOT TRAVEL TO ŞIRNAK AND HAKKARI"

London, under the crimes section, issued security warnings regarding terrorism, political situation, crimes, laws and cultural differences, outdoor activities and adventure tourism, transportation risks, extreme weather conditions, and natural disasters in Turkey. The advice to not travel to the Turkey-Syria border, Şırnak, and Hakkari was maintained.
