In a statement made by the Turkey Capital Markets Association (TSPB), it was noted that there has been an increase in reports indicating that investors have been persuaded to open accounts to invest in capital market instruments through high return promises, using the titles and logos of authorized institutions operating in the capital markets, fake brokerage activity documents, and the names and surnames of individuals working in these institutions, via phone or social media accounts, and that they have been asked to send money to these accounts for investment purposes.
The statement emphasized that investors should not trust such fraudulent activities, and included the following:
"According to capital market legislation, transactions involving capital market instruments by investors residing in Turkey can only be conducted through institutions authorized by the Capital Markets Board (SPK). Transactions targeting investors residing in Turkey outside of institutions authorized by the SPK constitute a crime as unauthorized capital market activity."
"MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE INFORMATION"
The statement noted that investors should be aware that they can only open accounts with institutions established in Turkey and authorized solely by the SPK, and that they can invest safely through this route.
It was conveyed in the statement that the information regarding the capital market activities of institutions authorized by the SPK should be checked through the official communication and websites of these institutions and the association's website, and the following evaluation was made:
"Institutions listed on the SPK and TSPB websites should not be trusted for applications, websites, and social media accounts other than those verified social media accounts announced on their own official websites. Caution and care should be exercised regarding individuals who introduce themselves as employees of a capital market institution, and in any suspicious situation, especially regarding account openings and money transfers, contact should be made with our relevant institutions through call centers and general directorate phone numbers."
"IBAN INFORMATION SHOULD BE CONFIRMED WITH AUTHORIZED INSTITUTIONS"
The statement emphasized that investors should not send investment money to any account other than bank accounts opened in the name of authorized institutions and should confirm the IBAN information with authorized institutions before sending money.
The statement also drew attention to fraud operations carried out using artificial intelligence, stating, "We strongly remind that investors should not trust false and completely fraudulent content on various social media platforms, where the names, logos, and titles of important companies in Turkey are used along with the voices and images of prominent business people, including state officials, prepared with AI-based techniques through fake social media accounts and videos." It was noted that investors can access the list of institutions authorized by the SPK at "www.spk.gov.tr" under the institutions heading.
