AK Party member Şamil Tayyar made a striking warning regarding the process of a terrorism-free Turkey. Tayyar stated, "If the aim is 'to end terrorism and continue the government,' it is beneficial to keep Öcalan on the sidelines. Because the name Öcalan alone is enough to infect the process."
After the report prepared by the commission established in the Parliament as part of the efforts for a terror-free Turkey, the process accelerated. The discussions about the "right to hope" for PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan have also reignited.
STRIKING STATEMENT FROM AK PARTY'S TAYYAR
A striking statement came from AK Party's Şamil Tayyar. In a statement on his social media account, Tayyar argued that Öcalan should be kept on the sidelines for the government to continue.
"SUPPORT DECREASES AS ÖCALAN IS PLACED AT THE CENTER OF THE PROCESS"
Tayyar said: "I wrote this before. Let me repeat. Public support for the terror-free Turkey project, that is, the effort to end terrorism and build the future in brotherhood and together, is quite high. As Öcalan is placed at the center of this process, becomes more visible, and is portrayed as the owner, we see that support decreases.
"IF HE RETURNS TO IMRALI, SOCIETY WILL HOLD ACCOUNT AT THE BALLOT BOX"
For example, tomorrow… If he is declared the chief negotiator. If meetings are held with journalists. If he returns to the Imralı monastery. Then, even if all expectations regarding the process are met, the political cost will be heavy. Society may not largely take to the streets, boycott, or participate in protests, but it will hold account at the ballot box behind the curtain where it feels most free.
