Warnings upon warnings for Istanbul! Heavy rain and thunderstorms are on the way.

Turkey's western region is entering the influence of a new rainy weather system. The meteorology department has issued a yellow code warning for 15 provinces due to the risk of heavy rain, storms, and lightning. AKOM also warned citizens about the expected heavy rainfall in Istanbul starting from the morning hours. Meanwhile, a warning for 'electric storm' has been issued as 30,000 lightning strikes are expected in many provinces, including Istanbul.

According to the latest assessments made by the General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM); it is predicted that the entire country will be partly and very cloudy, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in the Marmara, Aegean coast, western Black Sea coasts, as well as in the regions of Manisa, Bolu, Karabük, and Samsun.

It is expected that the rainfall will be locally strong in the Marmara Region and in the areas of Düzce and Zonguldak. Dust transport is predicted to occur in the Mediterranean and the western part of Southeastern Anatolia.

WARNING FOR HEAVY RAIN AND STRONG WINDS

Due to the expected locally strong rainfall in the Marmara Region and in the areas of Düzce and Zonguldak, a warning has been issued to be cautious and prepared against possible adverse conditions.

YELLOW CODE FOR 15 PROVINCES

Due to the expected heavy rain and storm in many regions of the country today, a yellow code warning has been issued in many cities. The 15 provinces under yellow code are as follows:

Afyonkarahisar, Balıkesir, Bilecik, Bursa, Çanakkale, Eskişehir, Isparta, Konya, Kütahya, Manisa, Niğde, Uşak, Aksaray, Karaman, and Yalova.

AKOM'S 'STORM' WARNING

In a statement made by the Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), it was reported that the wind is expected to blow at storm strength with short bursts starting from the morning hours, and that thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to occur.

It was stated in the announcement that the rainfall, which is expected to be effective until the evening hours, could be locally strong until noon, and citizens were warned to be prepared and cautious against adverse weather conditions.

ELECTRIC STORM IS EXPECTED

As warnings come in succession from AKOM and Meteorology, a post from Hava Forum about an 'electric storm' drew attention. In a post made from Hava Forum's X account, it was stated, "From midnight tonight, we expect sudden electric storm transitions in Çanakkale and Edirne; on Saturday morning and noon, we expect sudden electric storm transitions in Istanbul, Kırklareli, Tekirdağ, Balıkesir (Bandırma), and Bursa. You can expect thunder, lightning, and heavy rain."

In another post made later, it was stated, "Attention! Within 18 hours from midnight tonight, 30,000 lightning strikes are expected across the Marmara Region."
