In an incident that occurred yesterday morning in the Islington area of London, a man set himself on fire in front of police officers who had responded to a domestic dispute report. The incident took place on North Road around 09:25. When the police teams arrived at the scene to assess the domestic dispute report, they saw a man suddenly set himself on fire in the street. The police officers quickly intervened with fire extinguishers and jackets. In footage shared on social media, moments were captured of nearby citizens screaming in horror and police officers panicking as they tried to assist the man. The man, engulfed in flames, was taken to the hospital by an ambulance that arrived at the scene. According to information from hospital officials, the man's condition is not serious and he is not in life-threatening danger. A police officer who intervened in the fire also received treatment for minor burns and was discharged. In a statement from the Met Police Service, it was said, "Due to the presence of police teams at the scene during the incident, the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. The relatives of the injured have been informed of the situation." The investigation into the incident is being conducted by the Professional Standards Directorate of the Met Police Service. The London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service were also among the units dispatched to the scene.
