In Azerbaijan, restrictions on headscarves were introduced in schools as part of the dress code adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers. As the fallout from the incident continues, the comparative video aired on state television has further fueled the debate.

A dress code regulation that entered into force in educational institutions in Azerbaijan has sparked a new debate. After instructions sent to school administrations, headscarved teachers were asked to uncover their heads or resign, while a comparative video broadcast on state television further increased reactions.

Discussions regarding dress and clothing restrictions in educational institutions in Azerbaijan continue to expand. Following the dress code regulation adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers for students on September 21, a new decision covering educational staff was put into effect on October 6.

TEACHERS ARE FORCED TO UNCOVER THEIR HEADS

In the new regulations conveyed by the Ministry of Education and Science to school administrations, a requirement was introduced that the clothing of all personnel working in schools comply with the established standards. After the decision, restrictions began for headscarved teachers working in schools in various cities of the country, especially Baku and Sumgayit. School administrations asked headscarved teachers to enter classes with their heads uncovered, otherwise to resign from their posts.

CONTROVERSIAL POST FROM STATE TELEVISION

While reactions to the practice continued, an image broadcast on Azerbaijani state television further escalated the debate. In the broadcast, in which two separate images featuring students with uncovered heads and covered heads were placed side by side, the question was posed: "Which school would you attend? - The choice is yours" ("Which school would you like to study at? - The choice is yours"). This post by the state television aroused wide repercussions in the public and on social media.
