In Şanlıurfa, an 18-year-old young man was shocked to learn that he was listed as a cerebral palsy patient in the system when he went to obtain a health report for his driver's license application. The young man stated, "Five years ago, they diagnosed me with cerebral palsy. They didn't give me a driver's license because I am considered 100% disabled. Because of this diagnosis, I haven't been hired for a job, and I won't be able to serve in the military either. I want this diagnosis to be removed."
18-year-old Hamza Ayrılmaz, who lives in the Ceylanpınar district of Şanlıurfa, injured his foot while playing a match with his friends on a turf field 5 years ago. After going to the hospital, Ayrılmaz underwent physical therapy for a short period. Once his foot healed, Ayrılmaz returned to his normal life.
HE EXPERIENCED THE SHOCK OF HIS LIFE WHILE APPLYING FOR A DRIVER'S LICENSE
Last year, Hamza Ayrılmaz, who turned 18, applied to take the driver's license exam. To complete the required documents, Ayrılmaz went to the hospital to obtain a health report. When the doctor checked the system, they found that Hamza Ayrılmaz was recorded as a patient with cerebral palsy.
THE 18-YEAR-OLD YOUNG MAN IS SEEKING HELP FROM AUTHORITIES
Because there was such a record in the system, the health report also resulted negatively. Learning that he was recorded as having cerebral palsy, which means paralysis, Ayrılmaz was in great shock. The young man went home and explained the situation to his family. His father, Salman Ayrılmaz, took his son and went to the hospital to correct the mistake. Allegedly, the hospital staff stated that they did not have the authority to correct this situation, which was entered into the system 5 years ago. The family, who has knocked on every door for about a year, could not get the record corrected. Hamza Ayrılmaz, who works in his father's bakery, is seeking help from the authorities.
"I WAS NOT GIVEN A DRIVER'S LICENSE BECAUSE I AM 100% PARALYZED"
Ayrılmaz said, "About 5 years ago, I fell and injured my foot while playing a match with my friends on a turf field. I went to Ceylanpınar State Hospital for physical therapy. They have defined me as a patient with cerebral palsy. When I went to get my driver's license, I was not given a license because the report stated that I have cerebral palsy and am 100% paralyzed."
"I HAVE NO PROBLEMS"
Ayrılmaz, who stated that no one would hire him due to the diagnosis in the record, said, "I go to apply for a job, but they do not hire me because of the cerebral palsy diagnosis. I have no problems. As I said, 5 years ago, I just fell and injured my foot while playing a match with my friends, and I went to physical therapy. During physical therapy, this incorrect diagnosis was defined in my name without my knowledge. I had no health problems before going to the football field, and I still have none after that. I applied to a workplace for insurance entry, but they did not hire me because of this diagnosis. They could not process my insurance entry," he expressed.
"I WON'T BE ABLE TO SERVE IN THE MILITARY BECAUSE OF THIS DIAGNOSIS"
Hamza Ayrılmaz, who stated that he would not be able to serve in the military due to the incorrect diagnosis, said, "My military service time is approaching. I will not be able to serve in the military because of this diagnosis. I want this diagnosis to be removed and my victimization to be addressed. I learned about this situation when I went to get my driver's license. They referred me to the family health center for the health report. When I went to get the report, I learned that the disease of cerebral palsy was defined in my name. We have not left any place unvisited, but we cannot remove this diagnosis. My military service is in a year or two. I really want to serve in the military, but as long as this diagnosis remains in my name, I cannot serve in the military or get a job," he said.
"WHEREVER WE GO, WE ARE TOLD 'WE DON'T HAVE THE AUTHORITY'"
Father Salman Ayrılmaz said, "We learned about this situation when we went to get my son a driver's license. This diagnosis was made in 2020, but we just realized it. When my son turned 18, we wanted to get a driver's license normally, but we were told 'you cannot get a driver's license.' That was when we learned about this cerebral palsy disease. We had never encountered it before. Your child has no health issues. He plays football, rides a bicycle. We want this diagnosis to be removed as soon as possible. Wherever we go, we are told that we do not have the authority to remove it. We want it to be removed as soon as possible," he said.
