WHO IS GÜLİSTAN SÖNÜK?

Born in 1993, Gülistan Sönük completed her high school education in Kozluk and graduated from the Department of Political Science and International Relations in 2018. In 2019, Sönük was elected as the Co-Mayor of Bekirhan Municipality. In the local elections on March 31, 2024, she served as the Co-Mayor of Batman, receiving 64.52% of the votes.

After the appointment of a trustee to the Esenyurt Municipality in Istanbul, the Ministry of Interior announced that trustees were also appointed to the municipalities of Batman, Mardin, and Halfeti. Governor Ekrem Canalp was appointed as the trustee in place of Batman Mayor Gülistan Sönük. In Mardin, Tuncay Akkoyun, the Governor of Mardin, was appointed as the Deputy Mayor in place of Ahmet Türk. Additionally, it was reported that a trustee was also appointed to the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa.
