Denmark defeated Peru 1-0 on Saturday evening in the World Cup Group C match at Mordovia Arena in Saransk.
Denmark used a counter attack in the 59th minute that resulted in a goal by forward Yussef Yurary Poulsen.
Despite creating lots of chances and causing trouble for Denmark's defense, Peru missed them all, including a penalty kick in the first half.
Denmark's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel dived the opposite way to where Cueva had hit the ball, but the Peruvian was not on target.
Schmeichel made six saves in the match, the most by a Danish goalkeeper since his father Peter Schmeichel, who made nine saves in the World Cup in 1998 against France.
Peru had an overwhelming support from their fans after appearing in their first World Cup in 36 years, but it came out unlucky.
The win has put Denmark in the second place in the Group C after the first matches; France leads the group after beating Australia with a 2-1 score. Peru stands in the last place. -
