It was reported that U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen met with Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) President Fatih Karahan.
In a statement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, it was noted that Yellen met with Şimşek and Karahan on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings.
The statement mentioned that Yellen praised Turkey's commitment to strong and predictable economic policies, stating that these policies have led to a significant improvement in the Turkish economy and have helped inflation to trend downward.
The statement included, "Yellen and Şimşek also discussed the importance of compliance with sanctions and the prevention of the Turkish financial system from being exploited by those evading sanctions and terrorist groups."
