Yemen's Houthis Report Fresh US-British Airstrikes On Al Hudaydah

17.06.2024 21:42

5 airstrikes hit Al Hudaydah Airport in western Yemen, say Houthi rebels.

Yemen's Houthi rebels on Monday reported fresh US-British airstrikes against facilities it holds in the western province of Al Hudaydah.

In a statement, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah television said five airstrikes targeted the Al Hudaydah Airport.

No information was provided about casualties or damage.

There was no comment from the US or Britain on the report.

Al Hudaydah is a major Yemeni province with three vital ports and a long coastal strip.

Earlier in the day, the same news outlet reported that the US and Britain carried out four airstrikes on Kamaran Island in the Red Sea.

Kamaran is the largest Yemeni island in the Red Sea and is administratively part of the coastal province of Al Hudaydah.

Since the beginning of 2024, a coalition led by the US has been carrying out airstrikes that it said target Houthi locations in parts of Yemen in response to attacks by the group in the Red Sea. The counterattacks have been occasionally met with retaliation from the group.

In solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which is facing a devastating Israeli offensive, the Houthis have targeted Israeli cargo ships in the Red Sea or ones associated with Tel Aviv with missiles and drones.

With the intervention of Washington and London and an escalation of tensions, the Houthis announced that they now consider all American and British ships to be military targets.
