22.08.2019 14:50

In congratulatory message to Sudan's new prime minister, Nobel laureate Karman urges him to withdraw his forces from Yemen.

ISTANBUL (AA) The Nobel laureate Yemeni activist Tawakkol Karman congratulated the newly appointed Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok and urged him to immediately withdraw the Sudanese forces from Yemen.

Karman in her Thursday letter directed to Hamdok, said: "I congratulate you on having the confidence of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) in Sudan along with the Sudanese people celebration on your appointment as prime minister for the transitional government".

She also said that "the right person in the right place, I and my people wish you all success in serving the Sudanese people".

She urged him to immediately withdraw the Sudanese army from Yemen, adding: "This is not your war, continuing your participation will affect the friendly and fraternity relations between our peoples".

"It is only appropriate for the new Sudan just to distance itself far away from this war that destroyed and fragmented the Yemeni people", she added.

On Wednesday, Hamdok sworn-in as Sudan's prime minister for the transitional period that will last for 39 months and end with conducting the elections.

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, chairman of the Transitional Military Council before being dissolved, said the Sudanese forces will keep its participation in Yemen within the Arab Military Coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
