The incident occurred at a bridal shop on Kevelciler Street. Hakkıhan G., the owner of the bridal shop, and Emirhan Kabanlı, the owner of the neighboring workplace who entered, began talking and laughing. Hakkıhan G. pointed the shotgun, which he said was unloaded, at Emirhan Kabanlı, who wanted to open the door and leave the workplace, and pulled the trigger. As a result of the gun discharging, Kabanlı was shot in the abdominal area. Hakkıhan G. and other tradesman friends in the area rushed to help Kabanlı, who fell in front of the door. Kabanlı, who was taken to Erzurum City Hospital by private vehicle, could not be saved despite all interventions.

Police teams caught and detained the suspect, Hakkıhan G., together with the shotgun he used in the incident. Hakkıhan G., who underwent a health check at Atatürk University Research Hospital, was taken to the Erzurum Provincial Police Department Public Order Branch Directorate for questioning.
