In the Çemişgezek district of Tunceli, an object believed to be a meteorite fell into the garden of 85-year-old Fehime Ekici's house. Ekici described the incident as a "Mother's Day gift." Her son, Fahri Ekici, stated that the weight of the meteorite is around 20 kilograms and that it has been sent for analysis.
Fehime Ekici, an 85-year-old woman watching the rain from the window of her house in the Doruk hamlet of the Arpaderen village in Çemişgezek, Tunceli, saw an object fall from the sky like a fireball into her garden. Fehime Ekici told her son Fahri Ekici, who came home in the evening, about the situation. The next day, Fahri Ekici found the object, which he estimated to weigh about 20 kilograms and believed to be a meteorite, and sent it for analysis.
"I SAW SOMETHING FALL LIKE A FIREBALL"
Fahri Ekici said, "I worked as a tradesman in Istanbul for 30 years. After retiring, I settled in my village. I live here with my mother. The other day, during a very heavy rain, my mother saw something fall from the sky like a fireball while sitting by the window. I wasn't home at that moment, I didn't see it. When I got home, my mother told me about it and described it. I searched the area where it fell and found it," he said.
"WE THINK IT'S A METEORITE"
Stating that they assessed the stone to be a meteorite, Ekici said, "The place where it fell is already clear. Since it fell like a fireball, it created a crater in that area. The stones were scattered and spread around. As I said, we think it is a meteorite. We sent it for analysis. We are waiting for the results. After that, we will wait for interested parties. The largest piece weighs about 3.5 kilograms. It was scattered in the place where it fell, of course, we collected these, and there are about 15-20 kilograms of stones. The largest piece weighs about 3.5 kilograms. It feels heavier than normal stones. We will evaluate it according to the results of the analysis," he said.
Fehime Ekici humorously mentioned that the Mother's Day gift fell from the sky, saying, "My children were in Elazığ on the day the stone fell. They came back from Elazığ in the evening. I told my son Fahri, 'I'm afraid fire will rain down on us.' He asked, 'Why, mom?' I said, 'A big piece of fire fell from the sky. Like lightning. It feels like fire is raining down.' He asked, 'Where did it fall?' I said, 'I really don't know, it fell towards the front door.' They went to check at night but couldn't find it. I told them, 'Son, it can't be found at night.' My children came home late anyway. When they looked during the day, I asked, 'Did you find it, son?' He said, 'Of course we found it, mom.' A gift rained down on us on Mother's Day," she said.
