Beşiktaş criticized referee Atilla Karaoğlan and the MHK harshly after the VAR recordings regarding the controversial penalty position were published.
Beşiktaş issued a strong statement against referee Atilla Karaoğlan and the MHK following the release of the VAR recordings related to the controversial penalty position in the match against Samsunspor.
Here is Beşiktaş's statement;
"In the 36th minute of the match played by our Football A Team against Samsunspor in the 13th week of the Trendyol Super League, the VAR recordings regarding the penalty that was not awarded in our favor were released by the Turkish Football Federation, and the superior performance displayed by referee Atilla Karaoğlan to avoid giving our penalty was watched by all of Turkey.
While watching the VAR recordings shared with the public, we sadly witnessed the panic of referee Karaoğlan, who was confused by the concepts and tried to correct his mistake after realizing it, producing pathetic excuses to avoid giving our penalty on behalf of Turkish refereeing.
In the mentioned position, the player raised his knee to the level of his shoulder and directed his exaggeratedly opened arm towards the ball with the intention of intervening. In this case, intentional play of the ball or deflection from the knee is not taken into account.
Referee Atilla Karaoğlan, who could not assess the position during the ongoing play and later watched the clear position repeatedly from different angles on the VAR monitor, directly affected the outcome of the match by mixing up the concepts to avoid making a penalty decision.
The Central Referee Committee has also facilitated this scandal by appointing Karaoğlan, who has shown a negative attitude towards our club, to our match, which is now known even to the deaf sultan.
As Beşiktaş JK; we will closely monitor Atilla Karaoğlan, whom we believe does not have sufficient training to officiate and, more importantly, is malicious, for the remainder of the season.
Beşiktaş JK"
