It has been reported that China has instructed its domestic airlines to halt the purchase of Boeing aircraft in retaliation for the United States' decision to impose a 145% tariff.

As the mutual tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on April 2 raised concerns about a global trade war, another retaliation came from China to the U.S.

ORDER TO HALT AIRCRAFT PURCHASES

According to reports in the U.S. press, it was reported that in response to the U.S.'s decision to impose a 145% tariff, China instructed domestic airlines to halt the purchase of Boeing aircraft. It was also stated that the Beijing administration requested Chinese companies to stop purchasing aircraft parts and equipment originating from the U.S.

AID WILL BE PROVIDED TO AIRLINES

It was noted that the Chinese government is evaluating ways to provide assistance to airlines that lease Boeing aircraft and are expected to face higher costs in order to minimize the negative impacts of the decision. Experts reminded that China's largest airlines, Air China, China Eastern Airlines, and China Southern Airlines, are planned to receive 45, 53, and 81 Boeing aircraft respectively between 2025 and 2027, commenting that China's decision could significantly affect the commercial performance of the U.S. aircraft manufacturer. No official statement has been made by Boeing regarding the matter.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On April 2, U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs to be applied to trade partners. Trump stated that the basic tariff rate would be 10%, and he announced that the mutual tariffs determined specifically for countries would be suspended for 90 days. Nevertheless, the tariff rate against China, which retaliated against the U.S., was raised to 145%. Trump's tariff move had increased concerns about a global trade war.
