Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about wanting to invade Greenland by saying, "It makes absolutely no sense to discuss the necessity of the U.S. taking over Greenland, and they should stop their threats."
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen made a statement following U.S. President Donald Trump's renewed interest in acquiring Greenland.
Frederiksen stated, "Discussing the necessity of the U.S. taking over Greenland makes absolutely no sense, and they should stop their threats. Because the U.S. has no right or authority to annex any of the two autonomous regions that make up the Kingdom of Denmark."
Frederiksen also emphasized that Greenland is a NATO territory, stating that the island falls under the alliance's collective security guarantee.
THREAT CONTINUED ON THE PLANE
Meanwhile, U.S. President Trump, while returning from Florida to Washington, made statements to the press regarding the issue, continuing his threat about Greenland along with Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, Colombia, and Mexico.
Claiming that Greenland is a "very strategic" location and is currently surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships, Trump said, "We need Greenland for our national security, and Denmark will not be able to handle it."
