Mourinho made the statement "They jump like monkeys" regarding a position where the yellow-reds were expecting a card during the Galatasaray derby. Following this statement, Galatasaray said, "Since he started working in Turkey, Fenerbahçe's head coach Jose Mourinho has regularly made derogatory remarks about the Turkish people. Today, he has added inhumane statements to his immoral expressions. We announce that we will file a criminal complaint against Jose Mourinho due to these racist remarks, and we will also file a complaint with UEFA and FIFA. According to NTV Spor's report, Jose Mourinho met with his lawyers following Galatasaray's statement about him. It was stated that the Portuguese coach decided to file a lawsuit against Galatasaray Club after the meeting with his lawyers.

As any reasonable person can see and understand; the expressions used by Jose Mourinho to describe the opposing team's technical staff's excessive reactions to referee decisions during the match cannot be associated with racism in any way. Attempting to portray this statement as a racist remark is a completely malicious approach. We announce to the public that we will exercise our legal rights regarding this pathetic slander aimed at taking the competition off the field, changing the agenda, and manipulating it."
