The trial of university student Ayşe Tokyaz, who was killed by former police officer Cemil Koç in Küçükçekmece and whose body was left by the roadside in a suitcase, is ongoing. The hearing was interrupted due to tensions during the defense of detained police officer C. A., who was suspended for assisting the suspect.

On July 11 in Küçükçekmece, 22-year-old university student Ayşe Tokyaz was killed by former police officer Cemil Koç, and her body was placed in a suitcase and left by the roadside in Eyüpsultan. Cemil Koç and nine other defendants identified as participants in the crime appeared before the judge. The hearing at the Küçükçekmece 2nd High Criminal Court included nine detained defendants, including Cemil Koç, as well as the complainants, twin sister Esra and mother Halime Tokyaz, a member of a civil society organization, and spectators.

"CEMIL ASKED ME TO FIND A PHONE"

During the hearing, detained police officer C.A., who assisted the suspect, made a defense statement. C.A. stated, "I am married, I have three children, and I work in a grocery store. Ayşe Tokyaz and Cemil Koç came to me together in Istanbul. They told me they were engaged. I know Cemil's family well. I help him with most of his work. I repaired his car when it broke down. We last met on July 8, and there were no signs of any assault on their faces. That day, there was also a car repair job. We all went to repair the car and then went to Cemil's house. Cemil asked me to find a phone. I went and found a phone and brought it to Cemil. Cemil asked me to pick up Esra and take her to the dormitory. I was going to take Esra to the dormitory, but on the way, Cemil called me and said, 'Bring Esra back, I will take Ayşe to the dormitory.' Esra also told me, 'Let's go to the dormitory, I want to get my things.' We went to the dormitory and got the belongings," he said.

"AYŞE'S SHOES WERE IN FRONT OF THE DOOR, CEMIL SAID 'SHE IS NOT HERE'"

Continuing his defense, the defendant said, "Esra asked me to take her to Cemil's house. While we were going to the house, Cemil called again and told us, 'I have a job in Kocaeli, I will pick up Esra's belongings from in front of the dormitory.' Esra wanted to go home to get Ayşe. We went home, Cemil was there, and Ayşe's shoes were in front of the door. When Esra asked, 'Where is my sister?' Cemil said, 'She is not here.' Esra wanted to return to the dormitory. On the way, Esra told me she did not want Cemil to be with Ayşe. We arrived at the dormitory, asked the staff, and they told us Ayşe had not come to the dormitory. We went back to Cemil's house, there were cleaners in the house, and Cemil was not there. We could not reach Ayşe either. After that, Esra went to the police and filed a complaint. The next day, the police called me, and I went to the station. I learned about this murder from the police; I have no connection to this incident. I was just a brother to Esra and Ayşe; I had no other purpose. Cemil and Ayşe had a falling out once; at that time, Cemil was living in Eskişehir. I took Ayşe to Eskişehir with Cemil's knowledge and Ayşe's request. Five months before the incident, Cemil Koç and Ayşe Tokyaz set up a home. The walls of the house were painted red, and all the furniture was chosen by Ayşe Tokyaz," he stated.

"HE TOLD ME 'SUCH THINGS HAPPEN BETWEEN SPOUSES'"

Complainant Esra Tokyaz asked defendant C.A., "I asked C.A. what the suspect did for a living and whether he was a police officer. When Cemil argued with Ayşe and she was subjected to violence, I asked C.A. for help. C.A. told me, 'Such things happen between spouses; incidents of violence are normal.'

In response, defendant C.A. said, "I did not say such a thing."

Complainant Tokyaz stated, "When I entered Cemil's house, C.A. was there too. Cemil did not want me to enter the house. He blocked me. Later, Cemil wanted me to enter the house and scolded C.A., telling him, 'You go downstairs.' C.A. went downstairs. I stayed upstairs. If he was so concerned about me, as my brother, why did he want to leave me there?" Defendant C.A. replied, "I was upset when Cemil yelled at me; I wanted to leave from there."
