A 6 magnitude earthquake had occurred on the night of August 31 in eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistan border. It was reported that 2,205 people lost their lives and 3,640 were injured in that earthquake. The USGS also noted that on September 2, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred 34 kilometers northeast of the city of Jalalabad.
