Europe Business And Consumer Confidence İmprove İn March

30.03.2015 13:18

Lower oil prices and the weak euro are helping to boost growth in the region.

Confidence grew for businesses and consumers in both the Eurozone and in Europe in March according to a European Commission survey released on Monday.

In March, the Economic Sentiment Indicator reading improved in both the euro area (by 1.6 points to 103.9) and the EU28 (by 0.9 points to 106.1), continuing the upward trend observed since the beginning of 2015.

In separate report, the commission also announced that consumer confidence picked up to minus 4 from minus 6.7 of last month while industrial sentiment rose to minus 3 from minus 5, beating estimates of minus 4 percent.

Lower oil prices have put more money in European consumers' pockets. And a weaker euro has pushed European business' exports higher.

Then the European Central Bank's new program of quantitative easing, which injects €60 billion into the economy every month, appears to be achieving results; ECB governor Mario Draghi said in a recent speech that "recovery is now sustainable."

The ECB is also predicting 1.5 percent growth for the Euro area economy this year.
