The February council meeting of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, which was tense due to Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz's statement "Don't treat us like fools," ended with a foul-mouthed fight outside the hall. It was learned that CHP council member Erkan Uygun, who got angry during the brawl between council members, used profanity.
In the February council session of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, tense moments were experienced. In the council meeting held at Kocaeli Congress Center to discuss 162 agenda items, CHP council member Ahmet Kadı asked about the fate of the Cemevi project in Gebze.
Kadı's question, "I am asking on behalf of all the souls living in this area; the souls are waiting for the cemevi, when will it be built?" was answered by AK Party council member Hasan Soba, who said, "Dear council member, we just opened a new one in Derince. There are also issues related to the plans there. You painted such a picture that I won't easily get involved in these matters, but you are doing a great injustice to your city."
"HIS AIM IS TO CREATE CHAOS"
Zinnur Büyükgöz said, "I will answer, don't worry," when a voice rose from the hall. While the discussions continued, CHP council member Erkan Uygun spoke without taking the floor and intervened from his seat, prompting President Zinnur Büyükgöz to respond, "Look, I didn't give you the floor. His aim is already to create chaos. Don't treat him like a person."
"MR. PRESIDENT, WHAT IS THIS NOW?"
In response to these words, İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet reacted, saying, "Mr. President, what is this now? What does 'not treating like a person' mean? Take back your words."
"I AM NOT DISRESPECTFUL"
As the tension escalated, Erkan Uygun stood up to continue his reaction. Büyükgöz warned Uygun to sit down, saying, "You are getting up to create chaos. Sit down, I will take back my words. You get up from there, come here. You are walking towards people. What is this? This cannot happen. I took back my words because he sat down. How many times will I say, I am speaking in Turkish. I said, 'If he sits down, I will take back my words,' and I did, he is intentionally standing. You are disrespectful too, you are saying this for the fourth time. You got up saying 'disrespectful,' I am not disrespectful."
As crowds in the hall began to clash with each other, Büyükgöz tried to calm the parties down by saying, "Friends, please step back."
FISTS TALKED, CURSES FLEW IN THE AIR
Outside the council hall, council members and the accompanying crowd clashed in the corridors. It was observed that CHP member Erkan Uygun was angry and shouting curses. During the scuffle, it was learned that those around Uygun were trying to calm him down by covering his mouth.
Other council members and security personnel in the vicinity struggled for minutes to separate the fight where curses and fistfights occurred.
