In Osmaniye, during an incident where Özlem (6) was electrocuted while playing by an irrigation canal and her mother Cennet Üstün (37) lost her life while trying to save her, 4 out of the 9 people who were detained in connection with the case have been arrested on charges of 'causing death by negligence.'
On April 23, Özlem Ü. (6), who wanted to wash her hands in the irrigation canal passing by their house on Şehit Polis Mahmut Ava Street in the Kışla neighborhood of the Toprakkale district, was electrocuted. Her mother, Cennet Ü. (37), who tried to save her daughter, was also electrocuted. Despite the interventions at Toprakkale State Hospital, where the severely injured mother and daughter were taken by nearby individuals in a private vehicle, they could not be saved.
4 OUT OF 9 PEOPLE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY HAVE BEEN ARRESTED
In a statement made by the Osmaniye Governorship regarding the incident, it was stated, "As a result of the investigation initiated by our Osmaniye Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the matter, it was assessed that during excavation works carried out by a natural gas company near the scene, the electrical cables were damaged and created a leakage of electric current. Upon the instruction of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 9 individuals were captured and taken into custody." After completing their interrogations at the police station, 4 of the suspects, who were referred to the courthouse, were arrested for the crime of 'causing death by negligence,' while 5 others were released under judicial control conditions.
