Gaza, which Israel is bombarding, is getting worse every day. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported that humanitarian intervention is on the brink of collapse due to the aid blockade imposed by Israel for the past two months.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported that humanitarian intervention in Gaza is on the brink of collapse following Israel's two-month aid blockade.

HUMANITARIAN INTERVENTION ON THE BRINK OF COLLAPSE

ICRC issued a written statement regarding the situation in Gaza. The statement said, "After two months of aid blockade, humanitarian intervention in Gaza is on the brink of complete collapse." It was noted that the intense attacks, which have been ongoing for six weeks alongside the blockade, have deprived civilians of the basic necessities they need to survive.

The statement indicated that the ICRC would not be able to access the food, medicine, and life-saving supplies it needs to continue many of its programs unless aid begins to reach Gaza again.

It was reminded that under international humanitarian law, Israel has an obligation to use all available means to ensure the basic needs of the civilian population under its control are met. The statement warned, "If the blockade continues, programs like ICRC communal kitchens, which provide the only meal that people receive each day, will only be able to operate for a few more weeks."

HIGH RISK OF DISEASE

The statement noted that the water, sanitation, and hygiene situation in Gaza has also seriously deteriorated, emphasizing that disruptions in water systems have made the risk of waterborne diseases unacceptably high.

Pascal Hundt, Deputy Director of Operations at the ICRC, whose views were included in the statement, stated, "Civilians in Gaza are facing a devastating struggle to survive amid the conflict, cope with ruthless displacement, and bear the consequences of being deprived of urgent humanitarian aid. This situation must not be allowed to escalate further, and it is unacceptable."

ISRAEL VIOLATES THE CEASEFIRE, RAINING DEATH ON GAZA

The Israeli army resumed its violent attacks on the morning of March 18, following the ceasefire that came into effect on January 19 in the Gaza Strip. Since the resumption of attacks by the Israeli army, 2,111 Palestinians, mostly elderly, women, and children, have lost their lives, and 5,483 people have been injured. The number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, has risen to 51,495, while the number of injured has reached 117,524. Israel, which violated the ceasefire, announced that it would act with "increasing military force" against Hamas, citing the rejection of new ceasefire proposals. Hamas stated that "Israel has not kept its promises and has resumed genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip by failing to fulfill its responsibilities in front of the mediating countries." The Israeli attacks on Gaza have drawn attention as they were initiated under the shadow of controversial political moves, such as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's dismissal of the head of the internal intelligence agency Shin Bet.
