A total of 36 individuals who were detained for participating in illegal actions and demonstrations outside the celebration areas permitted by the Istanbul Governorship were released under judicial control after their proceedings at the courthouse. Meanwhile, among the suspects detained in two operations targeting individuals who called for gatherings in Taksim Square and its surroundings, 6 were arrested.

36 people who were detained during the May 1 demonstrations in Istanbul and brought to the courthouse were released under judicial control.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that leftist terrorist organizations aimed to exploit May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day for organizational propaganda purposes, and despite being banned, they called for gathering in Taksim Square and its vicinity.

After it was established that suspects operating within affiliated structures of terrorist organizations could provoke those gathering on May 1st to hold unauthorized demonstrations and could attack security forces with stones and sticks, detention orders were issued for 84 suspects.

In response, teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch conducted a simultaneous operation, capturing 76 suspects involved in armed terrorist organizations such as DHKP/C, MLKP, TKP-ML, DSİH, TİKB/B, TİKB, TKEP/L, TKİP, TKP/KIVILCIM, MKP, and TKKKÖ.

8 suspects from the video calling for Taksim Square were captured.

An investigation was also launched regarding the sharing of a video titled "May 1, 2025 Taksim Organization Committee Press Conference" on the X social media platform, which called for an illegal demonstration march to Taksim Square.

In the operation carried out by the Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch teams, 8 suspects were detained.
