After the arrest of CHP's Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin in a corruption investigation, CHP member Hasibe Akkan won the vice president election by receiving 28 votes in the third round.

After the arrest and suspension of Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, the election for the deputy mayor was won by CHP Council Member Hasibe Akkan.

DEPUTY MAYOR ELECTION HELD IN SEYHAN

The Seyhan Municipal Council convened in the Council Hall of the municipal building under the chairmanship of Council Vice President Halil Çağdaş Kaya. Kaya stated that the deputy mayor would be elected in accordance with the provisions of Article 45 of the Municipal Law No. 5393. During the meeting, the CHP Group nominated Council Member Hasibe Akkan, while the AK Party and MHP Groups nominated AK Party Council Member Mustafa Tunç. Akkan and Tunç congratulated each other before the election.

HASIBE AKKAN WON THE ELECTION

In the first two rounds of the voting that followed, neither of the candidates received the votes of two-thirds of the members, and the election went to the 3rd round. In the 3rd round, where a simple majority was sought, Akkan received 28 of the 45 votes, while Tunç received 17. Hasibe Akkan, who won the election, thanked all council members in her statement.

Stating that she is aware of the responsibilities of her position, Akkan said, "There will never be a passive deputy role in Seyhan. I promise to work actively on all tasks and services until our Mayor Oya returns." CHP Antalya Deputy Cavit Arı and CHP Provincial Chairman Anıl Tanburoğlu also made statements regarding their victory.

Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin was arrested on June 3 as part of a corruption investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior on June 5.
