Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that in 2024, 6,351 people lost their lives in traffic accidents, while 385,117 people were injured.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated, "In 2024, we lost 6,351 of our citizens in traffic accidents. 385,117 of our citizens were injured. This is a very large number. We all must say 'stop' to this. We must create a traffic culture together."
Minister Yerlikaya, in a post on his social media account, reminded that Engin Çağlar, one of the legendary figures of Yeşilçam, lost his life due to a motorcycle accident and announced the toll of traffic accidents.
HERE IS THE 1-YEAR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT BALANCE
In his statement, Yerlikaya said, "Once again, a traffic accident, once again deep sorrow. In 2024, we lost 6,351 of our citizens in traffic accidents. 385,117 of our citizens were injured. This is a very significant loss of life. We all must say 'stop' to this. We must create a traffic culture together."
"A MOMENTARY CARELESSNESS IN TRAFFIC TAKES A LIFETIME FROM US"
Yerlikaya stated that the aim of the new traffic law proposals is to prevent accidents, minimize loss of life, and create a traffic culture by positively changing drivers' behavior. He emphasized, "Deterrence is the most fundamental building block that ensures the development and establishment of traffic culture. It is vital to take deterrent measures to ensure that drivers comply with the rules and to reduce rule violations in the field of traffic safety.
Deterrence in traffic should be seen not only as a penalty system but as a multi-layered mechanism that builds a culture of safe living in society. I pray for God's mercy on Engin Çağlar; I extend my condolences to his family, loved ones, and the entire art community. A momentary carelessness in traffic takes a lifetime, a memory, a loved one from us," he stated.
