In the Antakya district of Hatay, a historical water channel emerged from the rubble of a building that collapsed during the earthquake. The historical water channel, which became visible due to a sinkhole that formed on the site, attracted the attention of the locals. The village headman stated, "I wondered if the people living here didn't hear the sound of the water below after the heavy rains. After the earthquake, they all came to light. These are our history."

In the Antakya district of Hatay, which suffered heavy damage from the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, historical structures continue to emerge as the rubble is cleared from the areas where destruction occurred.

A WATER CHANNEL EMERGED FROM THE RUBBLE

In the Kışlasaray neighborhood, where a building was located before the earthquake, a water channel emerged from the rubble as the debris was cleared and the land experienced subsidence. The stream, located about 1 meter deep and running just below the building before the earthquake, attracted the attention of citizens. The proximity of the stream to the surface revealed that the buildings in the area were constructed over the water channel. It is believed that the stream, which originates from the foothills of Habibi Neccar Mountain and flows into the Asi River, has also emerged in different locations after the earthquake.

"THE FLOW OF WATER CONTINUES"

Muhtar Celal Sarı, who stated that there was a 20-centimeter distance between the workplace located on the land and the stream before the earthquake, said, "I saw that there was a closed area while passing by the road. When I looked out of curiosity, I saw a water inlet like a stream and we were quite pleased. There used to be a structure here before. There were shops underneath the structure and residential apartments above. There is a stream that extends to the Asi River under this structure. The flow of water continues. There were shops and cafes under this structure. I wondered if the people living here heard the sound of water below after heavy rains. They probably heard the sound of water, but since these are very old structures, it may not have occurred to them that a water arch would pass underneath. From the point we are at, there is a depth of 40 to 50 cm downwards. The distance between the tiles we see below, which probably belong to the shop, and the water is also 20 cm. If there hadn't been an earthquake, we wouldn't have seen these. Previous generations must have noticed these. After the earthquake, all of these came to light. The transition points of these structures should be examined and brought to light. These are our past, and our past should be revealed," he expressed.
