Mehmet Kaçar, a master of the saz in Adana, shared that the late Ferdi Tayfur came to his shop years ago and composed many of his songs there, emphasizing that his connection to music was revived in that place.
Mehmet Kaçar, who is a saz master in the Seyhan district of Adana, could not hold back his tears while recounting his memories with Ferdi Tayfur, one of the masters of arabesque music.
"AT THAT TIME, HE WAS A POOR YOUNG BOY"
Kaçar, who has been involved in saz making for 60 years, stated that Ferdi Tayfur used to come to his shop and ask for a saz, saying, "Ferdi Tayfur was a poor young boy back then; he would come to me and play his songs in the shop. He would play the saz here for four or five hours," he said.
"HE COMPOSED 4 SONGS BY COMING HERE FOR 5-6 YEARS"
Kaçar mentioned that Tayfur composed 4 songs in his shop, saying, "He continued like this for 5-6 years and composed 4 songs here. The compositions usually had deficiencies, and we would correct them here. It took him 2-3 years to prepare those compositions. He asked me to make a saz for him so that he could spend his nights with it instead of going to the café, and I made him a saz here," he expressed.
"YOU SAY YOU'RE FROM ADANA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
Recalling those days, Kaçar said, "I asked him, 'What are you doing here?' You say you're from Adana, you're brave, you're courageous, but you can't get out of this shop; you can only call me and shout about it. I would joke that you should go to Erol's café and shout there, that would be enough for you," he said.
"I GOT VERY EMOTIONAL WHEN HE WAS ABOUT TO RELEASE HIS FIRST SONG"
Kaçar, who explained that he got very emotional when the master artist was about to release his first song, said, "One day he went to sing the songs he composed. He had composed songs like Kır Çiçekleri, Akşam Güneşi, Yadeller, Mapushane. One day while I was on the bus, I heard the music of Akşam Güneşi and thought, 'Oh no, he has sung this song.' He came to me and asked, 'Brother, how are things?' I replied, 'Honestly, no one can hold you back now,'" he stated.
"EVERYTHING RELATED TO FERDI TAYFUR MAKES ME VERY EMOTIONAL"
Kaçar stated that the artist's death deeply affected him, saying, "He would come to the shop, and we would play the saz together, examining the pieces he composed. His death affected me a lot. I don't want to hear anything about Ferdi; it makes me very emotional. I loved him very much; he was a very dignified, clean, and well-mannered person. I can't listen to his songs; I get very emotional when I do," he said.
"HE REFLECTED HIS POOR STATE VERY WELL IN HIS SONGS"
Finally, while talking about the reasons why Ferdi Tayfur was loved by the public, Kaçar said, "He had a poor state, and he reflected his condition very well in his songs, and that's why the public loved him very much," he concluded.
