Jordan Agrees To Legalize Muslim Brotherhood: Ex-Leader

01.03.2015 23:03

The Jordanian government has agreed to legalize the Muslim Brotherhood, a former group leader said Sunday.

The Jordanian government has agreed to legalize the Muslim Brotherhood, a former group leader said Sunday.

"The Jordanian government has agreed to the legalization of the Muslim Brotherhood," former Brotherhood general guide Abdel-Maguid Zunaibat told The Anadolu Agency.

He, however, declined to give further details.

A senior government source, meanwhile, said that the Jordanian cabinet on Sunday approved the establishment of a Muslim Brotherhood NGO.

"The approval has been sent to the Ministry of Social Development," the source said.

Zunaibat – along with 26 members – was sacked from the Muslim Brotherhood last month.

Rifts have started to emerge within Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood since 2013 soon after some senior members partnered in an initiative with other Jordanian political forces without taking permission from the Brotherhood leadership.

Called "Zamzam," the initiative reportedly aims to reach consensus on a national strategy for political and social development based on a moderate Islamic vision.
