Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized in his statement regarding Syria that the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, which uses the name SDF in Syria, must comply with the March 10 agreement, stating, "They are emboldened by Israel. The SDF should no longer prolong the process under the pretext of ISIS." Minister Fidan also issued a critical warning to the SDF, saying, "If you have an ideological struggle, you should come and engage in politics. If you continue on your path with weapons, you will be met with weapons."
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made evaluations regarding the agenda during a live broadcast he attended.
"SDG DRAWS COURAGE FROM ISRAEL"
Emphasizing that the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, which uses the name SDG in Syria, must comply with the March 10 Agreement signed with the Damascus government, Minister Fidan stated, "SDG definitely draws courage from Israel. This is not new; it has always been like this. SDG has never acted against Assad with the opposition. The US needs to exert a bit more pressure on Israel. SDG should no longer prolong the process under the pretext of ISIS," he said.
"IF YOU CONTINUE WITH WEAPONS, YOU WILL FIND RESPONSE WITH WEAPONS"
Regarding Turkey's position if SDG does not integrate into the Syrian army, Minister Fidan said, "We are not behaving well because we are weak, but because we want to be good. We have strength and power. If you have an ideological struggle, you should come and engage in politics. If you continue with weapons, you will find response with weapons."
TURKEY'S DIPLOMACY IN 2025
Key points from Minister Fidan's evaluations are as follows: "Our most important agenda item is Gaza. An agreement was reached in Gaza, but Israel has violated it many times. Turkey has pursued a policy that protects its own security area while reassuring its friends. The US is questioning its old policies. Europe is aware that transatlantic relations will no longer be the same as before. The centrality of competition with China and the vital importance of transportation corridors in the South China Sea are also leading the US to seek a NATO-like bloc against China. As Turkey, we will continue on our path by conducting risk analyses of all developments. It is important to transition to the second part of the fragile ceasefire process in Gaza without reverting to genocide. It is crucial that Israeli expansionism does not continue in 2026. These issues will continue to be areas of concern for us. We will closely monitor the issues in the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and the Sahel. Another issue we have been receiving signals about for a while is that commercial competition carries the risk of leading to a hot war. We see that commercial competition arises due to the lack of alignment in the systems of countries. We have strength, power, and will, but we are behaving well because we want to be good."
SYRIA ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE REVOLUTION
This situation pushes us to be transparent in all our relations in Syria, Iran, and Iraq. There have been many steps taken in Syria since December 18, 2024, but they are not visible. The Caesar Act has just been lifted.
Our President and the regional leaders play a significant role. The joint work currently being done in Syria would be great if it could serve as an example for all issues in the world. We see that the investments made in Syria are gradually coming to life. To establish order in Syria, it is necessary to break the international shackles. When you look at the map, Turkey's geographical continuity is evident. First, the balances in the country need to be restored. The first step was to gather the armed groups in the country under one command and integrate them into the national army. Turkey made the greatest contribution and sacrifice in this regard. Encouraging the opposition forces that Turkey has continuously supported to join the national army and ensuring that this happens immediately has brought together many different political groups resisting Assad under one command. This is perhaps a very important issue that has not received much appreciation.
It is undeniable that Israel has a design in mind for the region. We see this in Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, and Iran, as reflected in the policy put forth by Netanyahu and his team. Israel has a regional policy that shapes its own security perception based on the insecurity of others. As long as this continues, it seems that its interventions in neighboring countries will persist. There are steps that need to be taken, and we are working on the necessary studies regarding this.
The US needs to play a very important role here. The Trump administration took on two issues in both Gaza and Syria. It facilitated the peace agreement in Gaza alongside us, prioritizing our President and repeatedly supporting and praising him in the process in Syria.
"THE US MUST PRESSURE ISRAEL"
The US needs to exert a bit more pressure on Israel. SDG definitely draws courage from Israel. This is not new; it has always been like this. SDG has never acted against Assad with the opposition. The issue of Assad not leaving was not only desired by the Russians and Iranians. The Israelis also did not want him to leave. Therefore, US politicians, who are under the influence of Israel, have also reached this point. SDG should no longer prolong the process under the pretext of ISIS.
'TERROR-FREE TURKEY' PROCESS
The 'Terror-Free Turkey' process is progressing transparently and well. Especially for the sake of social peace, this historical opportunity is important for us. It is crucial to deepen and advance this process, with our President showing great political maturity and leadership in accepting this process and seeking goodness and kindness. Behind this, there is the support of our Parliament and our people. Everyone expresses the steps expected from Turkey, but we do not hear any expression regarding the organization's own steps.
THE TASK FORCE IN GAZA AND TURKEY'S ROLE
When it comes to Turkey, they say 'we are hesitant.' Work continues. Our priority is to prevent Israel's attacks. Whether we are involved or not, we want a force that ends Israel's occupation in Gaza to go there as soon as possible.
"I PREDICT CAATSA WILL BE LIFTED IN 2026"
If we get rid of CAATSA, it will be one of our top gains. Besides that, we have various issues that are stuck in many areas that need to be resolved. We need to lift the sanctions from Europe and the US until we reach a peak in our own domestic production. We lifted sanctions from Canada. There are wills regarding the lifting of CAATSA as well. I predict that CAATSA will be lifted in 2026.
RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR
The position our President has taken since the beginning of the war is clear.
Mr. Putin is willing for a ceasefire. Both sides clearly state what they want and what they do not want; the problem lies in the inconsistency between what the parties want. This is exactly where a mediator is needed. Our President expressed this during his meeting with Mr. Putin. This is a matter we are following with concern. We are requesting an agreement in two areas, especially. If there is not going to be a comprehensive total ceasefire and a peace agreement, let us make a limited agreement in two areas: the non-targeting of energy fields and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Black Sea. It seems that the issue will be resolved to some extent through elections and a referendum in Ukraine. Especially certain topics within this agreement can only be implemented through a referendum. There may be a situation that the political leader would not want to sign alone.
