Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made a statement regarding the tension between the US and Iran, which is on the brink of war. Minister Fidan, who stated that he spoke with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Arakchi, said, "There is currently no sudden threat of war. There is a possibility of resolving the US-Iran tension through negotiations. The region cannot bear a new war."
The rising tension between Iran and the USA has brought the two countries to the brink of war. While the nuclear negotiations that began in Oman have somewhat reduced the tension between Washington and Tehran, a striking statement came from Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
MINISTER FIDAN: THE REGION HAS NO CAPACITY FOR A NEW WAR
In a statement made during a live broadcast on CNN Türk, Hakan Fidan said that there is no possibility of an immediate war. Fidan used the following expressions: "The Iran issue occupies our agenda, our region has no capacity for a new war. Our President is also sensitive about this matter. Two days ago, Iranian and American officials met in Oman. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi provided information about the negotiations there, and discussions were held with American officials.
It is a difficult issue to reach a conclusion, but the encouraging aspect is that the parties have shown a willingness to negotiate. After a long break, it is important for us that a positive atmosphere has emerged following the first contact. We need to find a creative solution; if the parties have a willingness to resolve this, we can see that. At least for now, there does not seem to be an immediate threat of war. There is a possibility that the US-Iran tension can be resolved through negotiation. There is a possibility, the door has been opened, and after the meetings held in Istanbul on January 30, it was an important decision for both sides to decide to negotiate and start with the nuclear file. Telling the Iranians to take or leave four items is not a solution, we explained to the Americans. After seeing a willingness from the Iranians regarding the nuclear issue, we also told the American side that it would be better to proceed from here. The nuclear issue is the most important issue. The number of topics the Iranians want to discuss is not the same as the number of topics the Americans want to discuss. Iran wants to talk about 2 issues. One is what the current practice regarding uranium enrichment is. The other is what will happen to the enriched uranium at a rate of 60 percent. Iran only wants to discuss this."
