Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that the perpetrators of the incidents involving the discovery of a baby’s body in a trash container in Kocaeli in 2007, as well as the murders of two separate women in Çorum in 2014 and in İzmir in 2005, have been apprehended.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made a statement on his social media account regarding the work of the 'Special Police Teams' established to clarify unsolved murders.
20-YEAR UNSOLVED MURDER IN IZMIR
Minister Yerlikaya stated, "The perpetrator of E.D., who was shot and killed in an empty lot in Izmir on December 2, 2005, could not be found. In 2025, a special team was formed to re-examine the case. With the development of new technological capabilities, forensic studies, and a three-month technical and physical surveillance, individuals named N.D., S.K., and H.D. were captured and arrested by the judicial authorities to whom they were referred."
BABY FOUND IN A TRASH CONTAINER 18 YEARS AGO
Referring to the murder committed in Kocaeli 18 years ago, Yerlikaya noted: "The baby found in a trash container in Kocaeli on May 27, 2007, could not be identified. In 2025, a special team was formed to re-examine the case. As a result of re-examining the unidentified fingerprints obtained from the box where the baby was found with the developing technological capabilities, it was determined that they belonged to E.N.Ö. The individual named E.N.Ö. was captured and arrested by the judicial authorities to whom he was referred."
11-YEAR-OLD WOMAN MURDER IN ÇORUM
Regarding the murder in Çorum that occurred 11 years ago, Yerlikaya stated, "On January 6, 2014, a woman named A.Ş. was killed with a sharp object in Çorum, but the perpetrator could not be found. In 2025, a special team was formed to re-examine the case, and through 14 months of fieldwork, it was determined that the suspect was M.E.Y. The individual named M.E.Y., who is currently in prison for another crime, was also arrested for the crime of 'Intentional Murder' of A.Ş."
"WE DO NOT GIVE UP ON MURDERS COMMITTED YEARS AGO"
Minister Yerlikaya stated, "Our heroic police are addressing unsolved murders one by one retroactively. With the 'Special Police Teams' we have established, we continue to clarify the cases. We do not give up on the murders committed years ago. There are no unsolved murders during our cabinet term. The identities of all the murderers have been clarified. I congratulate those who contributed."
