The trial regarding the allegation that Selahattin Baki insulted Eray Yazgan following the events that occurred after the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby played last season in the Super League continued. The judge postponed the hearing, during which yellow-red executive Bora İsmail Bahçetepe was heard as a witness, in order to address the deficiencies in the case file.
After the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby in the 37th week of the Trendyol Super League last season, Bora İsmail Bahçetepe, a member of the Galatasaray Board of Directors, was heard as a witness in the case where Selahattin Baki, who was a member of the Fenerbahçe Board of Directors at that time, was tried for allegedly insulting Eray Yazgan, a member of the Galatasaray Board of Directors.
ERAY YAZGAN FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST SELAHATTIN BAKI
In the hearing at the 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance in Istanbul, the complainant Eray Yazgan and the lawyers of the parties attended. Complainant Yazgan stated that he accompanied the Fenerbahçe club officials during the derby and that they went down together after the match ended. Yazgan noted that the officials wanted to enter the locker rooms to congratulate the players and then headed towards the field, mentioning that some incidents occurred on the field during this time, and that Selahattin Baki insulted him with derogatory remarks as they were leaving the field. Yazgan emphasized that Fenerbahçe Club President Ali Koç warned Baki and expressed that he was filing a complaint against him.
"HE USED OBSCENE INSULTS"
Bora İsmail Bahçetepe, who was heard as a witness in the hearing, stated that after the match on the night of the incident, the Fenerbahçe Sports Club officials entered the field and that he told the Fenerbahçe officials that Yazgan's actions were illegal and that they should leave the field. Bahçetepe explained that he went to Yazgan due to the tension that arose, saying, "At that moment, the defendant Selahattin Baki used obscene insults towards our club official Eray. In response, the President of Fenerbahçe Sports Club reacted by grabbing Selahattin Baki by the collar. Selahattin Baki also said things like, 'Everyone is insulting, you are only angry with me.' This is all I know about the incident. Eray did not make any insults. He was just saying that what Ali Koç did was wrong," he stated. The judge postponed the hearing to address the deficiencies in the case file.
FROM THE INDICTMENT
In the indictment prepared by the Mediation Bureau of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it is stated that after the Fenerbahçe Sports Club's technical staff, officials, and players entered the field to celebrate their victory following the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby played on May 19, 2024, a scuffle occurred among the fans.
It is reported in the indictment that an investigation was launched upon the complaint of Yazgan's lawyer, and it is noted that the video footage submitted to the case file confirmed that Baki insulted Yazgan.
The indictment requests that the defendant Selahattin Baki be sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 3 months and 15 days to 2 years and 4 months for the crime of "insult." It is also stated in the indictment that the crime of "insult" is subject to reconciliation, but reconciliation could not be achieved between the defendant and the complainant as a result of negotiations between the parties.
