Residents gathered in front of the planned McDonald's branch on Kaldırım Street in the Bahçelievler neighborhood of Üsküdar, Istanbul, holding a banner that read "We do not want a murderer supporter of Israel in our neighborhood" to protest.
Citizens carried placards that said, "Free Palestine from river to sea," "We do not want McDonald's in our neighborhood," and "The massacre campaign menu of the murderer will never be missed."
VERY STRONG REACTION TO MCDONALD'S
The group, carrying Turkish and Palestinian flags, frequently chanted slogans such as, "Muslim, do not sleep, stand by your brother," "I will not cooperate with Israel, I am a Muslim," and "The Islamic community does not accept humiliation."
Neighborhood resident Cemal Yön, speaking on behalf of the group, stated that they would shop at a national and local business when it opens, saying, "If they continue their stubbornness and let Jewish capital in here, they should know that the Bahçelievler neighborhood will stand tall and united against them."
"WE DO NOT WANT JEWISH CAPITAL IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD"
Yön expressed that a Muslim is wise and discerning, stating, "A discerning Muslim will not allow these things in Bahçelievler neighborhood. We have no enmity with these people. We only want them to transfer this place to a national, halal business. They think we will give up. We are committed to this path; we do not want Jewish capital in our neighborhood."
"WE WILL GATHER HERE UNTIL THEY LEAVE"
Yön, expressing that the boycott is a philosophy of life and a way of living, noted: "We will never forget the boycott. Just as we oppose this brand here, we will keep the boycott alive in our shopping. Boycott will be our principle until we die. Those who support the oppressors are also guilty. Those who shop here cannot account for it on the Day of Judgment. People are hungry and thirsty in Gaza. If these stay here, it will be a shame for us. Let’s be aware of the danger. Let’s raise our children with the consciousness of boycott. We will not harbor Jewish capital here. From today on, let’s make the boycott our motto. We will gather here until they leave."
