An 82-year-old woman in the town of Ruhmannsfelden, in Bavaria, Germany, continued to receive her pension by keeping her deceased mother mummified in the basement of their home for years.
IT CAME TO LIGHT WHEN THE MAYOR WANTED TO GIVE A GIFT
The woman's fraud was revealed when her deceased mother turned 103 years old, as she had significantly reduced communication with her neighbors and did not allow anyone into her home. Werner Troiber, the mayor of Ruhmannsfelden, wanted to congratulate the town resident who turned 103 and give her a gift. However, he was unable to visit the woman, whom neighbors said they had not seen for 10 years.
With increasing reports suggesting that the elderly woman might be dead, the police conducted a search of the house. During the police search, the body of the 103-year-old woman was found mummified in the basement of her home. The autopsy could not determine the time and cause of the woman's death.
AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN LAUNCHED
An investigation has been launched against the 82-year-old woman, who did not report her mother's death to the authorities and continued to receive her pension, on charges of fraud.
