It has been claimed that the U.S. administration has been conducting direct secret talks with Hamas regarding American-Israeli hostages in Gaza and the possibility of a more comprehensive agreement with Israel.
"THE U.S. HAS DIRECTLY DISCUSSED WITH HAMAS FOR THE FIRST TIME"
In a report by the Axios news site, which is based on two sources knowledgeable about the secret talks, it was noted that the U.S. has made direct contact with Hamas for the first time. Sources speaking to Axios stated that the talks were conducted by the U.S. Special Representative for Hostage Affairs, Adam Boehler, who met with Hamas officials in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in recent weeks.
THE RELEASE OF HOSTAGES WAS DISCUSSED
Sources indicated that the discussions focused on the release of hostages who hold dual U.S.-Israeli citizenship, and that the possibility of a more comprehensive agreement to achieve the release of all hostages and a long-term ceasefire was also among the topics addressed. The sources noted that the Trump administration consulted with Israel regarding communication with Hamas, but that Tel Aviv was informed of the content of the talks through different channels.
It was also emphasized that no agreement was reached in the discussions. No statement has yet been made regarding the claims from the White House or Hamas. Currently, it is estimated that there are 59 Israeli hostages in Gaza, of which five are reported to also hold American citizenship.
