CHP Chairman Özgür Özel canceled his planned programs in Manisa tomorrow and in Izmir on Monday. Özel will meet with Ekrem İmamoğlu and other detainees tomorrow at the Marmara Closed Prison in Silivri. Özel is also expected to be in Istanbul on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In a new operation conducted as part of the corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), 50 out of 53 individuals, for whom detention orders were issued, were taken into custody.
Among those detained are IMM Deputy Secretary General Arif Gürkan Alpay, Ekrem İmamoğlu's Chief of Staff Kadriye Kasapoğlu, and the spouse of Murat Ongun, the Chairman of the Board of Media Inc. and İmamoğlu's advisor, Gözdem Ongun.
Also among those detained are Şafak Başa, the General Director of the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ), İSKİ Deputy General Manager Begüm Çelikdelen, and İSKİ Environmental Inspection Department Head Adem Şanlısoy.
Other high-level executives taken into custody include:
IMM Bosphorus Planning Director Elçin Karaoğlu, IMM Real Estate Management Deputy Chairman Fatih Özçelik, IMM Planning Branch Manager Ramazan Gülten, IMM Study and Project Department Heads Serap Öbekçi and İhsan Yılmaz, and Culture Inc. Deputy General Managers Erdinç Çolak and Onur Aldı.
