When examining the rate of default on housing loans by province, the lowest rate was observed in Bingöl (0%). Bingöl was followed by Ardahan (0.01%), Burdur (0.02%), Yalova, and Ağrı (0.03%). In the three major cities, the rates were recorded as 0.11% in Ankara, 0.16% in Istanbul, and 0.17% in Izmir.
The total size of consumer loans in Turkey approached 3 trillion TL. According to BDDK data, in the week ending February 6, consumer loans reached 2 trillion 998 billion 342 million TL. The loan volume, which closed at 2 trillion 881 billion 138 million TL last year, showed an increase of approximately 117 billion TL in the first 5 weeks of 2026.
THE SHARE OF HOUSING LOANS IS 23%
Housing loans constituted 695 billion 554 million TL of the total loans. Thus, the share of housing loans in the total reached 23 percent. According to FinTürk data, as of December 2025, the non-performing loan ratio in housing loans was quite low at 0.17 percent. Among the provinces with the most loyal borrowers were Bingöl (0%), Ardahan (0.01%), Burdur (0.02%), Yalova (0.03%), and Ağrı (0.03%).

FOLLOW-UP RATE IN 3 METROPOLISES
According to a report by Türkiye newspaper; Istanbul became the province with the highest housing loan usage with a balance of 197.40 billion TL. The non-performing loan ratio in the mega city was recorded at 0.16 percent. In Ankara, 0.11 percent of the 91.90 billion TL loan was non-performing, while in Izmir, 0.17 percent of the 49.30 billion TL loan was non-performing.
LAST STATUS IN EARTHQUAKE PROVINCES
Kahramanmaraş (0.45%), Hatay (0.54%), and Adıyaman (0.60%) were the provinces with the highest non-performing loan ratios in housing loans, most affected by the 2023 earthquake. However, even in these provinces, the ratio remained below 1 percent. The total housing loan stock of the three provinces constituted 1.1 percent of the total with 8 billion TL.
