US President Donald Trump said regarding the news that Ukrainian President Zelensky would come to the US, "Yes, I heard he will come on Friday, and if he wants, it is absolutely fine with me. We want to get that money back."
President Trump evaluated the agenda for the press after signing some presidential decrees at a signing ceremony held in the Oval Office.
"WE WANT TO GET THAT MONEY BACK"
In response to the statement that Ukrainian President Zelensky would come to Washington on Friday, Trump said, "(Zelensky) Yes, I heard he will come on Friday, and if he wants, it is absolutely fine with me. We want to get that money back. He wants to sign this agreement with me. I understand that this is an important issue, a very big matter."
"WE WILL NEED TO MAINTAIN PEACE"
Trump stated that they would discuss how the peacekeeping force in Ukraine would be with the Russian and Ukrainian sides, saying, "We will need to maintain peace. Something will be done that will satisfy everyone. Any situation involving American soldiers is actually a peacekeeping mission that everyone can accept. Ultimately, there will be a situation we can agree on."
Commenting on whether the US or Europe would take a role in the future protection of Ukraine, Trump assessed, "I think European countries will largely be responsible for this."
"WE WOULD LIKE TO BUY PRECIOUS MINERALS FROM RUSSIA TOO"
On the other hand, Trump indicated that after the precious minerals agreement with Ukraine, he might also want to make a similar agreement with Russia.
Stating that Russia has a significant amount of precious minerals, Trump said, "We would also like to buy the minerals from Russian territory. If we can, they have very good rare earth elements as well. They have both. This would be great for Russia too because we can make deals there. They have a lot of unused valuable land."
Trump noted that the sanctions imposed on Russia are currently not part of the peace agreement negotiations, but at some point, the issue of lifting them will come to the table.
ZELENSKY SAID YES
Volodymyr Zelensky, who accepted Trump's offer to transfer half of Ukraine's rare earth elements to US companies in exchange for military support, is expected to go to the White House on Friday to sign the agreement.
