Journalist Ersin Çelik, who was attacked and detained by Israel in international waters as part of the Global Sumud Fleet, said, "(The Israelis) subjected Greta (Thunberg) to severe torture in front of our eyes. They made her kiss the Israeli flag."

Çelik, who was brought to Istanbul by Turkish Airlines (THY) after being attacked and detained by Israel in international waters, spoke on CNN Türk live broadcast.

THEY MADE THE SWEDISH ACTIVIST KISS THE ISRAELI FLAG

Pointing out the treatment they received from Israeli soldiers, Çelik said, "(The Israelis) subjected Greta (Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg) to severe torture in front of our eyes. They oppressed Greta, she is just a little child. They dragged her around, made her kiss the Israeli flag. They did exactly what the Nazis did."

"WE WERE SUBJECTED TO VIOLENCE, LEFT HUNGRY AND THIRSTY"

Meanwhile, other activists also stated that they were subjected to violence. Activists, who shared their first feelings and experiences as soon as they got off the plane, indicated that they stayed in an Israeli prison for about 3 days, were subjected to both physical and psychological violence, and that Israeli soldiers left them hungry and thirsty. The activists emphasized that they did not bow to the pressures and stated that all those detained were rescued by Turkey. The activists said, "We thank our President and our state."

THE FREEDOM FLEET IS HEADING TO GAZA

Additionally, following Israel's attacks on the Global Sumud Fleet, the second wave, the International Freedom Fleet, has begun to advance towards Gaza with 11 ships. The second International Freedom Fleet, which set out to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza, continues its journey towards Gaza in the Mediterranean with a total of 11 ships.

The fleet carries not only aid supplies but also the determination to break the inhumane blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip. After the attack by the occupying Israel on May 2 in the open waters of Malta, the 68-meter-long ship named Vicdan, which underwent necessary repairs and maintenance, carries many journalists, doctors, and activists.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The THY plane carrying the detained activists took off from Ramon Airport in Eilat, Israel, and landed at Istanbul Airport at 15:50.

A total of 137 people, including 36 Turks and 23 Malaysians, who were on the vessels of the Global Sumud Fleet, arrived in Istanbul on this flight. The activists were welcomed at the Istanbul Airport VIP Lounge by some officials and many people.
