After the earthquake in Istanbul, Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün's method of checking buildings by hitting the walls and using a flashlight has drawn criticism. Comments such as "Is that a watermelon, uncle?" and "It must be a new technology" were made under the shared footage.

After the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri, Istanbul, attention turned to the structural safety in Istanbul, while the building inspection method of Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün sparked controversy.

HE PERFORMED EARTHQUAKE CONTROL BY KNOCKING ON WALLS

After the earthquake, Mayor Akgün went to the field and checked the safety of some buildings by knocking on the walls and holding a flashlight. The images that surfaced in the public eye showing Akgün "inspecting" the buildings with these simple methods caused great astonishment.
