New obligations regarding money transfers between bank accounts by MASAK came into effect on the first day of the new year. Accordingly, citizens who perform transactions exceeding a total limit of 200,000 TL via mobile banking, internet banking, or ATMs are met with warning messages requesting them to provide an explanation of at least 20 characters regarding the details of the transfer transaction.
The regulation announced by the economic management in recent months, which introduces new restrictions on money transfers, came into effect today. Under the new legislation sent to banks by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, users who exceed a total of 200,000 TL in money transfers made during the day will be required to enter a description exceeding 20 characters for each new transaction.
THEY MUST PROVIDE A DETAILED EXPLANATION
The regulation covers money transfers made through mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs. Accordingly, users who will make money transfers from ATMs will have to provide a more detailed explanation of the purpose for which the money is being sent after inserting their cards.
FORM REQUIREMENT FOR AMOUNTS OVER 2 MILLION TL
In the new application, additional obligations come into play as the amount increases. While the "explanation requirement" is applied for transactions over 200,000 TL, if the total of transfers made within the same day exceeds 2 million TL, users will need to fill out a form. If the total transfer amount is between 2 million TL and 20 million TL, filling out the "Cash Transaction Declaration Form" will be mandatory.
For money transfers exceeding 20 million TL, additional information and documentation regarding the source of the funds will be required. If the customer's explanation is not approved, the money transfer will not be allowed.
A NEW ERA OFFICIALLY STARTED TODAY
The new era at ATMs officially began this morning. Citizens wishing to make a transaction exceeding 200,000 TL had to provide an explanation of the purpose for which the money was sent after inserting their cards into the ATM.
